This crochet heart granny square is a beautiful way to create meaningful projects while still keeping things simple and approachable.

Designed with beginners in mind, this square uses basic stitches and a familiar granny-style layout, making it easy to follow and enjoyable to repeat.

One of the best things about the crochet heart granny square is how versatile it is.

Special Stitches

Double Crochet Decrease (Dc2tog)

A double crochet decrease (dc2tog) is a technique used in crochet to reduce the number of stitches by combining two double crochet stitches into one.

This creates a slimmer section in your work, making it useful for shaping and narrowing areas.

How to Double Crochet Decrease (dc2tog)

  1. Yarn over.
  2. Insert your hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).
  3. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook.
  4. Repeat steps 1 - 3. You will end up with 3 loops on your hook.
  5. Yarn over again, and this time pull through all loops on your hook.

Treble Crochet

  1. Yarn over twice, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook).
  2. Next, yarn over and pull through two loops (3 loops on hook).
  3. Then, yarn over and pull through two loops (2 loops on hook).
  4. Yarn over and pull through remaining loops (1 loop on hook).

Gauge

Gauge is not too important for these crochet heart granny squares.
