Fall is a great time for cozy crochet projects, especially small amigurumi animals that bring a bit of seasonal character to your home.

This crochet turkey is one of those projects that feels festive without being complicated, making it a fun pattern to work on during the lead-up to Thanksgiving.

This little amigurumi bird is worked in separate pieces and then assembled, so there is a bit of sewing involved.

Even so, the shapes are simple and approachable, which keeps the crochet turkey beginner to intermediate friendly.

The rounded body, small wings, and layered tail feathers give it that classic turkey look while still being manageable for most crocheters.

Because it's an amigurumi animal, the project has plenty of personality once finished.

A crochet turkey can be used as a small fall decoration, placed on a shelf or table, or even added to a seasonal display alongside pumpkins and autumn leaves.

It's also a charming handmade gift idea for friends or family who enjoy fall décor.

Deep browns, warm oranges, golden yellows, and rust tones all work beautifully for a crochet turkey, helping the finished piece fit perfectly with Thanksgiving and autumn decorating.

Assembling Your Turkey

Take your top feathers, beak, wings, feet, tail feathers, and tail and pin them onto the body of your turkey.

The top feathers should sit on top of the head, in a position you like.

The beak should sit about row 9 and parts of rows 8 and 9 on the body and be between the eyes. When you sew on the beak, make sure to fold it in half first so that it forms a point on one end.

The wings should be sit on opposite sides of the body near the neck.

The feet should be between rows 20 and 21of the body, or as you like.

The tail feathers sit on the back of the turkey about half way up the back (but below the neck). When you position the tail feathers, place the middle feather first, then the feathers that sit on the left and right of the middle one, and finally place the outer left and right feathers.

The tail sits at the base of the feathers (I put mine between rows 16 and 17 of the body).

Assembling the crochet turkey.

Once you are happy with the positioning of your parts, sew them in place.

Finally, sew your wattle on top of your beak in a position you like. Sew the thinner end to the beak, leaving the thicker end of the wattle hanging.

Weave in any ends. Complete turkey.

FAQ

Is this crochet turkey suitable for beginners?

Yes, confident beginners can make it, although some sewing and assembly is required.

How long does it take to make one?

Most crocheters can complete the pieces in a few hours, with additional time for assembling.

What yarn works best for amigurumi?

Cotton or acrylic yarn works well because it helps the stitches hold their shape. You can make this in plush (chenille yarn) too, just remember to use the recommended hook size for the yarn you're using!

Can I customize the turkey's colors?

Absolutely. Many people like to experiment with different fall colors for the feathers.
