Leaf crochet coasters are nature-inspired table accessories shaped like leaves, created using shaping techniques that form pointed edges and natural curves.

They are often used for fall decor, botanical-themed styling, or handmade gift sets.

With a natural, leafy shape, they're perfect for summer drinks, autumn décor, or even as a small gift that feels thoughtful and personal.

This project is beginner-friendly but works best if you have a little experience with basic stitches.

It's a relaxing crochet project that takes about under 30 minutes per coaster, making it a perfect weekend crochet project.

Once you fold in the simple shaping, you'll find these leaf coasters are both practical and surprisingly decorative.

These leaf crochet coasters are a simple nature-inspired design that adds a soft seasonal touch, and there are more crochet coaster patterns like these alongside crochet flower coasters and sunflower crochet coasters.

Project Snapshot

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Time Needed: It took me about 20 minutes to make one crochet coaster, making this a manageable weekend crochet project (if you're making a whole set) or an evening craft if you're making just one.
Construction: Worked in rounds
Best For: Home decor, seasonal sets, gifting

Materials Needed

Yarn

  • #2 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) 100% cotton or cotton blend yarn with about 15 wraps per inch (WPI)*
  • You will be working with double strands. You can pick 2 yarn colors that compliment each other or 2 balls of the same color.
  • You will need about 0.32 ounces / 23 yards / (9 grams / 21 meters) of yarn.

Hook

  • 4.5mm (7) hook

Other

  • Yarn needle for weaving ends
  • Scissors

*Wraps per inch (WPI) - this is a measure of yarn thickness. To measure WPI, count how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. There are more wraps for thinner yarn and fewer wraps for thicker yarn.

Yarn and Hook Information

I recommend using cotton yarn for these coasters as it is more durable and can handle heat well.

You can also use thicker cotton yarn, such as #4 (worsted, 10 ply), just adjust the hook size accordingly.

If you do use #4 worsted weight yarn, you will not need to work double stranded.

The reason why I use 2 strands of #2 light cotton yarn is so that you can play with color variations by using complimenting strands of yarn. Or if worsted weight yarn is not available to you.

Emily's Notes

Leaf coasters are one of those projects where the shape does a lot of the work for you. Even simple stitch patterns look more interesting once they're formed into something organic and flowing like this.

Finished Size

Yellow leaf crochet coaster.

The finished size of this crochet leaf coaster is about 4.30 inches x 5 inches (11 cm x 12.5 cm) not including the stem length.
