Candy corn is one of those unmistakable signs that fall has arrived, whether you love it or politely leave it for someone else to eat.

These candy corn crochet coasters are beginner-friendly, no-sew coasters made with 100% cotton yarn.

The sample is worked double stranded with DK 8-ply cotton and a 4.5 mm hook, although single-stranded worsted-weight cotton can also be used.

The coasters are a quick project that takes under 45 minutes and works especially well as part of a handmade gift set.

These candy corn crochet coasters are a much easier way to enjoy the classic Halloween color combination. They're quick to make, beginner friendly, and useful enough to bring out year after year.

Make a few for your own fall table, or turn a set of candy corn crochet coasters into a simple handmade gift.

Why You'll Love This Pattern

  • These crochet coasters are quick. You can make one in under 45 minutes, making this an easy project when you want a seasonal crochet make without a big time commitment.
  • These candy corn crochet coasters are beginner friendly. The pattern uses simple stitches, so it's a nice project for building confidence.
  • There's no sewing involved in these candy corn coasters. The coasters are joined as you go, saving you from a separate finishing step.
  • They make a great gift set. A small stack of seasonal coasters makes an easy handmade gift without requiring a huge amount of yarn or time.
  • They're useful beyond decoration. These aren't just Halloween crochet that gets packed away afterward. Use them for everyday drinks, too.

Project Snapshot

Skill Level: Beginner friendly
Construction: Crocheted and joined as you go
Best For: Fall and Halloween decorating, everyday use and handmade gifts
Customizable: Yes, especially the yarn and colors
Notes: Made with 100% cotton. No sewing required.

Materials Needed

Yarn

#2 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) 100% cotton or cotton blend yarn with about 15 wraps per inch (WPI)*

  • You will be working with doubled stranded.
  • You will need 3 colors:
    • Col A: e.g. yellow 0.17 ounces (5 grams) / 113 yards (12 metres)
    • Col B: e.g. orange 0.14 ounces (4 grams) / 10 yards (9 metres)
    • Col C: e.g. white 0.10 ounces (3 grams) / 7.6 yards (7 metres)

Hook

  • 4.5 mm (7) hook

Other

  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

*Wraps per inch (WPI) - this is a measure of yarn thickness. To measure WPI, count how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. There are more wraps for thinner yarn and fewer wraps for thicker yarn.

Yarn and Hook Information

I recommend using cotton yarn for these coasters as it is more durable and can handle heat well.

You can also use thicker cotton yarn, such as #4 (worsted, 10 ply), just adjust the hook size accordingly.

If you do use #4 worsted weight yarn, you will not need to work double stranded.

The reason why I use 2 strands of #2 light cotton yarn is so that you can play with color variations by using complimenting strands of yarn. Or if worsted weight yarn is not available to you.

Stitches and Abbreviations - US Terms

  • Ch - Chain
  • St/s - Stitch/es
  • Sc - Single Crochet
  • Sc2tog - Single Crochet 2 Together (see special stitches)
  • Hdc - Half Double Crochet
  • FO - Fasten Off
  • [ ] at the end of each row indicates how many stitches are needed in that row.

Special Stitches

Single Crochet 2 Together (sc2tog):

  1. Insert your hook into the first stitch.
  2. Yarn over and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook).
  3. Insert hook into the next stitch.
  4. Yarn over and pull up another loop (3 loops on hook).
  5. Yarn over again and pull through all 3 loops.

Emily's Notes

I'm always a fan of crochet projects that are quick enough to finish before you've had time to talk yourself into starting something much more complicated.

These coasters are particularly nice because the finished set feels like a proper little project rather than a random scrap-yarn make. The candy corn design gives them that instant fall and Halloween connection, while the simple construction keeps them approachable.

The sample is worked with DK 8-ply 100% cotton held double stranded and a 4.5 mm hook. If you have worsted-weight cotton instead, you can work with that single stranded and adjust your hook size to suit.

Finished Size

Crochet Tips, Yarn Choices, and Color Inspiration

Choose cotton. Since these are coasters, 100% cotton is a practical fiber choice and is what the sample uses.

Pay attention when changing yarn weights. The sample uses DK cotton held double stranded, while the alternative is worsted-weight cotton worked single stranded. These setups won't necessarily behave identically, so adjust your hook size and tension rather than assuming the same hook will work for both.

Make a full set. One coaster is useful, but several together look much more intentional and make the project particularly suitable for gifting.

Candy Corn Crochet Coasters For A Handmade Gift Set

A set of these coasters makes a particularly easy handmade gift.

You could make several in coordinating colors, stack them together and tie them with a simple piece of ribbon or yarn. Add a mug, coffee or tea and you have a practical little gift without needing to spend weeks making it.

They're also small enough to make several sets if you need a few quick handmade gifts for fall or Halloween.

Perfect Occasions to Use This Craft

  • These coasters are a good fit for:
