If you want something a bit more tactile than a flat coaster, these sheep crochet coasters are a really fun option.
The standout detail is the textured "wool" effect around the sheep's face, which gives the coaster that soft, fluffy look without needing complicated stitches.
This crochet sheep coaster pattern is a great step up from basic coasters because it introduces front loop and back loop work to create dimension.
That might sound technical, but once you understand how those loops change the surface of your stitches, it becomes a very manageable technique and one that opens up a lot of design possibilities.
The result is a textured crochet coaster that feels more like a finished piece than just a simple circle.
It's still practical for everyday use, but also works as a decorative item that stands out on a table, especially in cosy or farmhouse-style settings.
They're small enough to batch, but detailed enough to feel like a thoughtful handmade gift rather than something generic.

- You will be working with doubled stranded. You can pick 2 yarn colors that compliment each other or 2 balls of the same color.
- You will need:
- Col A: Muzzle color, e.g. dark brown. About 0.07 grams, 5 yards (2 grams, 4.6 meters)
- Col B: Face color, e.g. beige. About 1.23 ounces, 89 yards (35 grams, 81 meters)
- Col C: Wool color, e.g. white. About 1.60 ounces, 114 yards (45 grams, 104 meters)
Hook
- 4.5 mm (7) hook
Other
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
*Wraps per inch (WPI) - this is a measure of yarn thickness. To measure WPI, count how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. There are more wraps for thinner yarn and fewer wraps for thicker yarn.
Skill Level
★★☆☆☆ - Beginner to intermediate
It took me under 1 hour to make this sheep crochet coaster.
Yarn and Hook Information
I recommend using cotton yarn for these coasters as it is more durable and can handle heat well.
You can also use thicker cotton yarn, such as #4 (worsted, 10 ply), just adjust the hook size accordingly.
If you do use #4 worsted weight yarn, you will not need to work double stranded.
The reason why I use 2 strands of #2 light cotton yarn is so that you can play with color variations by using complimenting strands of yarn. Or if worsted weight yarn is not available to you.
