There's something deeply satisfying about finishing a hat in one sitting - especially when it's actually warm enough to wear.

This crochet beanie - Bonnie is designed for exactly that kind of project: simple stitches, chunky yarn, and a clean, seamless construction worked in the round.

If you've been wanting to try a beginner crochet beanie but feel intimidated by shaping or complicated stitch patterns, this one keeps things straightforward.

The chunky yarn does most of the work for you, creating a thick, cozy fabric that feels substantial without requiring advanced techniques.

Because it's worked in the round, there's no seam to stitch up at the end, which makes the whole process feel smoother and more polished.

And since it works up quickly, it's ideal for winter craft sessions, last-minute crochet gifts, or building a small collection in different colours for yourself.

Whether you're crocheting your first hat or looking for a reliable, repeatable winter pattern, this crochet beanie is a practical choice.

Why You'll Love This Pattern

  • The chunky yarn means visible progress fast, which keeps it motivating
  • Worked in the round for a seamless, polished look
  • Warm enough for proper winter weather, not just light layering
  • Simple stitch pattern that's easy to memorise
  • Quick to make - ideal for gift batching
  • Customisable length for slouchy or fitted styles
  • A solid confidence-building project if you're new to hats
  • This isn't one of those overly delicate beanies that only works on mild days. The thicker yarn creates a genuinely cozy fabric, making it practical for cold mornings, outdoor events, or winter walks.

Materials Needed

Yarn

  • Super bulky (#6), acrylic, or acrylic blend yarn with about 5 WPI*
    • You will need about 3.81 ounces, 206 yards (108 grams, 189 meters)

Hook

Other

  • Yarn needle
