A crochet blanket scarf is the ultimate blend of style and comfort, giving you the warmth of a blanket with the portability of a scarf.

This crochet blanket scarf is a beginner-friendly wearable project that teaches you how to create an oversized scarf designed for warmth and versatility.

It is worked using simple stitches and repetitive rows to produce a large, cozy accessory that can be worn as a scarf or wrapped like a blanket.

This is a practical accessory for chilly mornings, outdoor events, or simply adding a touch of cozy texture to your everyday outfits.

This crochet pattern is beginner-friendly, using basic stitches that are easy to follow while still creating a plush, luxurious feel.

You can adjust the width and length to suit your style, make it extra-long for dramatic wraps, or a more modest size for casual wear.

Beyond personal use, a crochet blanket scarf makes an excellent handmade gift. Its size and versatility mean it can suit almost anyone, and the pattern is simple enough to batch-make for friends, family, or craft markets.

Whether you want a lightweight scarf for fall or a thick, snuggly option for winter, this crochet blanket scarf pattern lets you create a beautiful, functional accessory that's truly one-of-a-kind.

Materials Needed

Yarn

  • Super bulky (#6) blanket yarn (or chenille yarn) with 4 WPI*
  • You can use a single color or variegated yarn like I did. You will need about 8.11 ounces, 168 yards (230 grams, 154 meters) of yarn.

Hook

  • 12 mm (P/16) hook

Other

  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

*Wraps per inch (WPI) - this is a measure of yarn thickness. To measure WPI, count how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. There are more wraps for thinner yarn and fewer wraps for thicker yarn.

Stitches and Abbreviations - US Terms

  • Ch - Chain
  • St/s - Stitch/es
  • Dc - Double Crochet
  • FO - Fasten Off
  • [ ] at the end of each row indicates how many stitches are needed in that row.

Gauge

4 inches x 4 inches (10 cm x 10 cm) = 7 dc x 4 rows

Emily's Notes

Blanket scarves are one of those projects where simple stitches really shine because the size of the piece does most of the visual work.

I like choosing yarns with good drape so the scarf doesn't feel too stiff when wrapped.

Keeping tension consistent is especially important here because small differences become more noticeable over a large surface.

Finished Size

Crochet scarf.

This crochet scarf is about 8 inches (21 cm) wide and 75 inches (190 cm) long.
