The Jessie Crochet Scarf is a beginner-friendly crochet pattern that creates a warm and stylish scarf using simple stitches and straightforward construction.

It is an excellent project for building confidence with stitch consistency while creating a practical accessory for everyday wear.

The scarf can be customized in length, width, and color to suit different styles and seasons.

This Jessie Crochet Scarf is a simple, textured scarf pattern designed to be easy to follow while still giving you a polished, wearable result.

It's worked in long rows, making it a great project if you enjoy relaxing crochet with a repeatable stitch pattern.

The finished scarf is fully customisable in length, so you can make it a lightweight everyday accessory or a longer, cozy winter wrap.

I made one recently for a friend, and the extra-thick texture and fringe detail made it feel both cozy and stylish and she wore it the very next day!

This pattern is perfect for beginners looking to create a winter accessory that's both practical and giftable.

Whether you want a cozy scarf for yourself, a handmade holiday gift, or a winter wardrobe staple, this crochet scarf is an easy, relaxing, and rewarding project.

Why You'll Love This Pattern

  • The stitch pattern has a smooth, relaxing rhythm that makes it easy to get into a flow without constant counting or checking your place
  • It works up quickly, making it a satisfying project when you want something you can actually finish in a reasonable amount of time
  • The design is versatile and works well with both solid colors and variegated or self-striping yarns, giving you very different looks from the same pattern
  • The length is easy to adjust, so you can make anything from a simple everyday scarf to a longer, layered statement piece
  • It's practical as well as enjoyable to make, giving you a wearable result that actually gets used rather than sitting unused
  • It's a great project for both personal use and handmade gifts because it feels thoughtful without being overly complicated

Materials Needed

Yarn

  • Super bulky (#6), acrylic, or acrylic blend yarn with about 5 WPI*
    • You will need about 12 ounces, 653 yards (340 grams, 599 meters) of yarn.

Gauge

4 inches x 4 inches (10 cm x 10 cm) = 8 rows x 6 sc

Emily's Notes

This is one of those scarves where the stitch rhythm really matters, once you get going, it becomes very meditative and easy to keep consistent.

If your edges start to look uneven, it's usually caused by small stitch changes at the end of rows, so it helps to pause every few rows and quickly count.

I also find that this pattern really changes depending on yarn choice, softer yarns give a much nicer drape, especially if you plan to wear it loosely wrapped rather than tightly bundled.

Also, if your starting chain feels tight, consider using a larger hook just for the foundation chain to help the scarf drape more naturally.

Finished Size

This crochet scarf is about 5.5 inches (14 cm) wide and 87 inches (220 cm) long (not including the fringe).

Rows 3 - 10: Repeat row 2. FO after row 10, or until your scarf reaches your desired width [138 sts in each row].

Making the fringe

Step 1: Cut yarn strands that are at least double the desired length of your fringe, plus a bit extra (for trimming).

I like to cut out strands that are about 13 inches (33 cm) long.

You could use the same color as you did for the scarf or mix it up and using a variety of different yarn colors.

Once you have cut your strands, take 3 to 4 strands for each fringe and fold them in half.

Step 2: With the right side of the scarf facing down, insert your hook into the scarf's end space where you want the fringe to be. Then, place the folded yarn loops on to the hook.

Step 3: Pull the yarn strands and hook through the stitch, but don't pull the ends of the yarn strands through.

Then, wrap the ends of the yarn strands around the hook and pull them through the loop to create a knot. Gently tug of the strands to tighten the knot.

Attaching a fringe to scarf.
