Materials Needed
Yarn
- #2 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) 100% cotton or cotton blend yarn with about 15 wraps per inch (WPI)*
- You will be working with double strands. You can pick 2 yarn colors that compliment each other or 2 balls of the same color.
You will need:
- Col A (apple color), e.g. red: 0.35 ounces / 25 yards (10 grams / 23 meters)
- Col B (leaf color), e.g. green: 0.040 ounces / 2.50 yards (1 gram / 2.30 meters)
Hook
- 4.5mm (7) hook
Other
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
*Wraps per inch (WPI) - this is a measure of yarn thickness. To measure WPI, count how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. There are more wraps for thinner yarn and fewer wraps for thicker yarn.
Yarn and Hook Information
I recommend using cotton yarn for these coasters as it is more durable and can handle heat well.
You can also use thicker cotton yarn, such as #4 (worsted, 10 ply), just adjust the hook size accordingly.
If you do use #4 worsted weight yarn, you will not need to work double stranded.
The reason why I use 2 strands of #2 light cotton yarn is so that you can play with color variations by using complimenting strands of yarn. Or if worsted weight yarn is not available to you.
