Who says coasters have to be boring? These crochet bear coasters turn everyday cups into a fun, cute experience.

With a simple round base and embroidered facial features, they're beginner-friendly and low-fuss, perfect for quick crafting sessions or gifting a set to a friend or family member.

This project is ideal if you want a cozy, practical craft that introduces light shaping and basic embroidery.

Each coaster takes roughly under 30 minutes to make, making it an easy evening crochet project or a weekend mini-project.

You can experiment with yarn colors or tiny variations in facial expression to give each bear its own personality.

Why You'll Love This Pattern

  • Cute, animal-themed design adds personality to your table
  • Beginner-friendly with minimal sewing required
  • Quick to make - each coaster is an evening crochet project
  • Perfect for gifting or seasonal décor
  • Fun way to practice shaping and simple embroidery

Materials Needed

Yarn

  • #2 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) 100% cotton or cotton blend yarn with about 15 wraps per inch (WPI)*
  • You will be working with double strands. You can pick 2 yarn colors that compliment each other or 2 balls of the same color.

You will need colors:

  • Col A: Muzzle Color, e.g. light brown. About 0.04 ounces / 2.50 yards [1 gram / 2.30 meters].
  • Col B: Bear Fur Color, e.g. dark brown. About 0.40 ounces / 29 yards [11 grams / 26 meters].
  • Black yarn for adding eyes and nose to your bear.

Hook

  • 4.5mm (7) hook

Other

  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

*Wraps per inch (WPI) - this is a measure of yarn thickness. To measure WPI, count how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. There are more wraps for thinner yarn and fewer wraps for thicker yarn.
