Special Stitches
Reverse Single Crochet (Crab stitch)
The reverse single crochet, also known as the crab stitch, is a very simple stitch that can add texture to your crochet. It's great to use for edgings, especially on baskets.
To reverse single crochet, instead of working in the direction you normally would, you instead work backward.
So, normally you would work towards the left. In reverse single crochet, you would work towards the right.
How to reverse single crochet:
- Insert your hook into the stitch to the right.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should now have 2 loops on your hook.
- Yarn over and pull through both loops, like you would in a normal single crochet.
Gauge
Gauge is not too important for this project.
Finished Size

The finished size of this small chunky crochet basket is about 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter and 2 inches (5 cm) tall.
