Apple crochet coasters are themed circular or shaped coasters designed to resemble apples, usually made using basic rounds with added shaping or appliqué for the leaf and stem details.

They're often used for seasonal decor, especially fall styling, and work well as quick giftable sets that bring colour and personality into everyday table settings.

These crochet coasters are simple enough to make in an evening, yet detailed enough that they feel like a thoughtful, handmade addition to your home.

I often make a few sets when I'm looking for a quick, relaxing project that doesn't take over my entire weekend, and the vibrant apple shape always makes me smile when I see them in use.

These apple crochet coasters are a simple, cheerful design that works really well for everyday kitchen décor or small handmade gifts, especially if you like pairing them with leaf crochet coasters or sunflower crochet coasters.

Beyond home use, they make a cute gift for teachers, friends, or anyone who enjoys bright, cheerful touches around the house.

Crafted with cotton yarn and a few simple stitches, these apple crochet coasters are beginner-friendly and quick to personalize.

Project Snapshot

Skill Level: Beginner
Time Needed: Each coaster took me about 20-30 minutes to make, making this a great option for an evening project or a weekend crochet session.
Construction: Worked in rounds
Best For: Seasonal decor, gifting, themed table sets

Materials Needed

Yarn

  • #2 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) 100% cotton or cotton blend yarn with about 15 wraps per inch (WPI)*
  • You will be working with double strands. You can pick 2 yarn colors that compliment each other or 2 balls of the same color.

You will need:

  • Col A (apple color), e.g. red: 0.35 ounces / 25 yards (10 grams / 23 meters)
  • Col B (leaf color), e.g. green: 0.040 ounces / 2.50 yards (1 gram / 2.30 meters)

Hook

  • 4.5mm (7) hook

Other

  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

*Wraps per inch (WPI) - this is a measure of yarn thickness. To measure WPI, count how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. There are more wraps for thinner yarn and fewer wraps for thicker yarn.

Yarn and Hook Information

I recommend using cotton yarn for these coasters as it is more durable and can handle heat well.

You can also use thicker cotton yarn, such as #4 (worsted, 10 ply), just adjust the hook size accordingly.

If you do use #4 worsted weight yarn, you will not need to work double stranded.

The reason why I use 2 strands of #2 light cotton yarn is so that you can play with color variations by using complimenting strands of yarn. Or if worsted weight yarn is not available to you.

Stitches and Abbreviations - US Terms

  • Ch - Chain
  • St/s - Stitch/es
  • Col - Color
  • Sl St - Slip Stitch
  • Dc - Double Crochet
  • Hdc - Half Double Crochet
  • FO - Fasten Off
  • [ ] at the end of each row indicates how many stitches are needed in that row.

Gauge

Gauge is not too important for these crochet coasters.

Emily's Notes

These are the kind of makes that feel cheerful the moment you finish one.

You don't really realise how cute they are until you lay a few together, they just instantly make a table feel more "put together" without trying too hard.

Finished Size

Crochet coaster.

The finished size of these apple crochet coasters is about 4 inches x 3 inches [10 cm x 7.5 cm] (not including the leaf height).

Crochet Tips, Yarn Choices, and Color Inspiration

  • Cotton yarn works best for coasters, keeping them absorbent and easy to wash
  • Red, green, and yellow shades create a realistic apple look
  • Use a slightly smaller hook for tighter stitches to keep the coasters firm
  • Lightly stuffing the stem can add a subtle 3D effect
  • Pair with matching napkins or table décor
  • Try contrasting colors for the leaf to make it pop
  • Make multiple in different colors to create a fun mixed set

Each apple coaster takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on your crochet speed.

Can I adjust the size?

Yes, you can use a larger hook or thicker yarn to make slightly bigger coasters.
