*Wraps per inch (WPI) - this is a measure of yarn thickness. To measure WPI, count how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. There are more wraps for thinner yarn and fewer wraps for thicker yarn.

Stitches and Abbreviations - US Terms

  • Ch - Chain
  • St/s - Stitch/es
  • Hdc - Half double Crochet
  • Blo - Back loop only
  • [ ] at the end of each row indicates how many stitches are needed in that row.

Gauge

4 inches x 4 inches (10 cm x 10 cm) = 16 stitches x 6 rows

Instructions

Foundation: Ch16.

Row 1: 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook,1 hdc in each remaining ch. Turn. [14 hdc].

Row 2: Ch2, hdc blo in each st across. [14 hdc].

Row 3 - 32: Repeat row 2 until your headband measures about 19.5 inches (50 cm). Do not fasten off.

Finishing the crochet headband:

Step 1: With the right side facing down, arrange the headband to sit horizontally. Fold the bottom edge up to meet the top edge. This will make your headband narrower.

Step 2: Slip stitch along the long open edge to join.

Step 3: With the right side facing down, fold the headband in half so that the 2 short edges meet. Slip stitch those together to join. Fasten off and and weave in any ends.
