- #3 Light (light worsted, DK, 8ply) acrylic yarn, with about 14 wraps per inch (WPI)*
- You will need:
- Col A - Center Color, e.g. light pink
- Col B - Outer Color, e.g. dark pink

- 4mm (G-6)

- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
*Wraps per inch (WPI) - this is a measure of yarn thickness. To measure WPI, count how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. There are more wraps for thinner yarn and fewer wraps for thicker yarn.
Yarn and Hook Information
Any yarn type will work well for this granny square - acrylic, blends, or even cotton. Just remember to use a appropriate hook size for the yarn you are using.

- Ch - Chain
- St/s - Stitch/es

Special Stitches
Puff Stitch (Ps)
- Yarn over, insert hook into next st.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop [3 loops on hook].
- Yarn over and insert hook into same stitch.
- Yarn over once again and pull up a loop [5 loops on hook].
- Yarn over one more time, insert hook into same stitch and pull up a loop. [7 loops on hook].
- Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops.
- Chain 1.
4-dc cluster
- *Yarn over and insert hook into stitch,
- Yarn over and pull up a loop [3 loops on hook].
- Yarn over and pull through 2 loops [2 loops on hook].
- Repeat from * three more times, working in the same stitch, once repeated three times you should have 5 loops on your hook
- Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops.
Treble Crochet
- Yarn over twice, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook).
- Next, yarn over and pull through two loops (3 loops on hook).
- Then, yarn over and pull through two loops (2 loops on hook).
- Yarn over and pull through remaining loops (1 loop on hook).
Gauge
Gauge is not too important.
Emily's Notes
Sunburst granny squares are a great way to practise combining texture with structure because the circular centre naturally transitions into a square shape.
I like making a few squares back-to-back while the stitch pattern is fresh so tension stays consistent across the set. I find if i step away and make more the next day, sometimes the tension is different resulting in various square sizes!
Blocking each square helps the final join look much cleaner, especially when mixing multiple colours.
Finished Size

This granny square is about 4 inches x 4 inches (10 cm x 10 cm).
