If you love cats and enjoy quick crochet projects, these cat crochet coasters are a fun way to combine both.

This pattern is beginner-friendly, uses simple stitches, and results in adorable coasters that are both functional and decorative.

These cat coasters are perfect for everyday use or for adding a themed touch to your table for gatherings.

You can place them under mugs, glasses, or small bowls to protect surfaces while showing off a bit of personality.

They also make great handmade gifts for cat enthusiasts-practical, cute, and easy to batch for multiple sets.

One of the best parts about this pattern is its flexibility. You can make coasters in a variety of colors to match your home decor or use up leftover yarn.

Minimal shaping is required, so even beginners can achieve a finished project that looks polished.

Plus, you can adjust the size by adding or reducing rounds, making them versatile for different uses-from drink coasters to small decorative mats.

Whether you're crafting a quick gift, decorating a cat-themed corner, or creating a batch of coasters for your own home, this cat crochet coaster pattern provides both fun and functionality.

It's practical, engaging, and perfect for turning small amounts of yarn into something useful and charming.

Why You'll Love This Pattern

  • Cute cat design adds personality to everyday items
  • Beginner-friendly with minimal shaping
  • Quick to make-perfect for gifts or batch crafting
  • Adjustable sizing to fit mugs, glasses, or small bowls
  • Uses scrap yarn effectively, reducing waste
  • Makes a fun and practical gift for cat lovers

Materials Needed

Yarn

  • #2 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) 100% cotton or cotton blend yarn with about 15 wraps per inch (WPI)*
  • You will be working with double strands. You can pick 2 yarn colors that compliment each other or 2 balls of the same color.
    • You will need 33 yards / 0.46 ounces [30 meters / 13 grams] of yarn.

Hook

  • 4.5 mm (7) hook

Other

  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

*Wraps per inch (WPI) - this is a measure of yarn thickness. To measure WPI, count how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. There are more wraps for thinner yarn and fewer wraps for thicker yarn.

Skill Level

★☆☆☆☆ - Beginner

This is a great evening crochet project. It took me about 30 minutes to make.

Yarn and Hook Information

I recommend using cotton yarn for these coasters as it is more durable and can handle heat well.

You can also use thicker cotton yarn, such as #4 (worsted, 10 ply), just adjust the hook size accordingly.

If you do use #4 worsted weight yarn, you will not need to work double stranded.

The reason why I use 2 strands of #2 light cotton yarn is so that you can play with color variations by using complimenting strands of yarn. Or if worsted weight yarn is not available to you.
