- #3 light milk cotton or cotton blend yarn with 12-13 Wraps Per Inch (WPI)* (this will make the small yellow crochet chicken). You will need about 0.31 ounces (9 grams) of yarn for the body.
- If you want to make the bigger crochet chicken you can use Bulky Velvet or chenille yarn, with 7 Wraps Per Inch (WPI)* and a 6 mm (4) hook.
You will need 3 colors - one of the body, one for the comb, one for the beak.

- Col A - Chicken Body Color, e.g. yellow
- Col B - Comb Color, e.g. red
- Col C - Beak Color, e.g. orange
You can use any type of yarn you'd like. Just make sure you use the appropriate hook size.
Round 1: Col A, make a magic ring, 8 sc into ring. Pull tail tight to close ring. Sl st into 1st sc to join. [8 sc].
Round 2: 2 sc into same st as sl st, 2 sc in each st around. Sl st into 1st sc to join. [16 sc].
Round 3: 1 sc into same st as sl st, 2 sc in next st, *1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st,* repeat from * around. [24 sc].
Round 4: 1 sc into same st as sl st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, *1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat from * around. [32 sc].
