If you're looking for something simple but a little more playful than standard coasters, these turkey crochet coasters are a great option.

They combine basic stitches with a cute animal design, making them feel a bit more special without adding complexity.

They're especially popular around fall and Thanksgiving, but they're not limited to one season.

With minimal color changes and a straightforward construction, you can easily adjust the look to suit everyday use or match your home decor.

These turkey crochet coasters feel especially fitting for fall decorating and seasonal tables, and are great alongside other themed makes like this pumpkin granny square crochet pattern and similar festive crochet coaster ideas.

Whether you're making a few for your own table or putting together small handmade gifts, they strike a nice balance between decorative and practical.

Materials Needed

Yarn

#2 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) 100% cotton or cotton blend yarn with about 15 wraps per inch (WPI)*

  • You will need:
    • Col A (face color, e.g. brown): 38 yards / 0.53 ounces [35 meters / 15 grams]
    • Col B (feather color 1, e.g. red): 10 yards /0.14 ounces [9 meters / 4 grams]
    • Col B (feather color 2, e.g. yellow): 10 yards /0.14 ounces [9 meters / 4 grams]
    • Col B (feather color 3, e.g. orange): 5.50 yards / 0.07 ounces [5 meters / 2 grams]
    • Black and white yarn for the eyes

Hook

  • 4.5 mm (7) hook

Other

  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

*Wraps per inch (WPI) - this is a measure of yarn thickness. To measure WPI, count how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. There are more wraps for thinner yarn and fewer wraps for thicker yarn.

Skill Level

Skill level: ★☆☆☆☆ - Beginner

Time estimate: It took me under 30 minutes per coaster.

Yarn and Hook Information

I recommend using cotton yarn for these coasters as it is more durable and can handle heat well.

You can also use thicker cotton yarn, such as #4 (worsted, 10 ply), just adjust the hook size accordingly.

If you do use #4 worsted weight yarn, you will not need to work double stranded.

The reason why I use 2 strands of #2 light cotton yarn is so that you can play with color variations by using complimenting strands of yarn. Or if worsted weight yarn is not available to you.

Crochet Tips, Yarn Choices, and Color Inspiration

  • Cotton yarn works best for coasters since it's absorbent and holds its shape well
  • Stick to classic fall tones like brown, rust, mustard, and cream for a seasonal look
  • For everyday use, try neutrals or muted tones to make them less theme-specific
  • Keep stitches tight to help the coaster hold its structure
  • Use simple embroidery or surface crochet for facial details if you want a cleaner finish
  • If you want less sewing, crochet small pieces directly onto the base where possible
  • Make all bases first, then add turkey details assembly-line style to save time
