Special Stitches

Double Crochet Decrease (Dc-dec)

A double crochet decrease (dc-dec) is a technique used in crochet to reduce the number of stitches by combining two double crochet stitches into one.

This creates a slimmer section in your work, making it useful for shaping and narrowing areas. It is similar to a single crochet 2 together but uses double crochet instead.

How to Double Crochet Decrease (dc-dec)

  1. Yarn over.
  2. Insert your hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).
  3. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook.
  4. Repeat steps 1 - 3. You will end up with 3 loops on your hook.
  5. Yarn over again, and this time pull through all loops on your hook.

Gauge

Gauge is not too important for this project.

Finished Size

The finished crochet Christmas stocking is about 13 inches tall x 5 inches wide (33 cm x 12 cm).
